criminals can obtain basic information such as your name,
address, account number, balance, etc.... Although this
is of little use on its own, a fraudster will attempt to
falsify a bank letterhead and then seek additional information
from you by posing as the bank. Their questions will all
relate to personal information and security data such as
passwords and the request will often require you to return
some information by fax to a number unrelated to the bank
concerned.

internet banking users from other UK banks have been the
target of a fraud which uses fake e-mails to encourage customers
to reveal their account number, PIN number or other personal
details into either a counterfeit copy of a website or an
email reply.
